Brian and Mighty Ton's Wrath! (the Casa Verde Food Coma)

When I first heard that Casa Verde landed in Manila, I could not help but to think of those sweet and savory ribs. Lahug's western food craze has certainly found its way at Katipunan and everyone who knows Casa Verde has been lining up ever since. You have your usual families and hipsters in line, but then you have people like me, who is the avid fan of the cheap priced yet satisfying food that has been shared to us by our American friends. but 250 pesos for a slab of ribs. Well, you better believe it!

Casa Verde is known for their generous portions, piles of meat and heaps of fries just bombarding your table without giving you a chance! But no matter how full I get i always leave with a smile. just because I leave thinking I only spent a frapuccino and a dessert worth from Starbucks. I suggest you eat with a lot of friends, order for sharing and enjoy the experience.

It is one of those crazes especially on the weekends that you have to endure the crazy long line, you have to get there before 5pm on the weekends. If you do survive the long line you dont have to wait that long as they serve the food at a decent time. You wont get HANGRY! (hungry+angry)

Here are some entrees you might want to order when you visit!

Milky Way Shake

Not advisable for a solo trip (yet if you still want to do it alone I salute you!) if you're feeling you have a cold sweet tooth this might just be for you. Milky way is a chocolate shake with chocolate syrup swirls, topped with a generous amount of cookie bits, vanilla/chocolate ice cream with a hard crack chocolate shell, whipped cream and a cherry on top! A very popular shake almost every table of 5 has it.

Chicken Fingers

A seasoned battered chicken tenders with a garlic mayo sauce with a side of chips. but I think originally its served with Mashed potatoes and veggies. It was fair to be honest, was slightly overcooked as the chicken was a bit dry. Maybe consistency issues but some say it was really delish when executed properly.

Brian's Ribs

This photo does not justify well how succulent these ribs are. I always come back for more. If you're eating this on your own this might just call for an extra rice. for 250 pesos I really recommend it!

Chicken Fried Chicken

Chicken Fried Chicken is similar to Chicken Fingers yet it comes with this bechamel or veloute-like sauce on top. I prefer this better as it cuts of the oil from the fried food. the sauce is light, well seasoned not to rich for the palette.

For those who want to experience the Man v. Food challenge in Manila

The Mighty Ton
I'm guessing 12 inch (looks like a 12 inch cake to me!) burger with heaps of patties, strips of bacon, piles of sauteed mushrooms, cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. I dont think you can mentally prepare yourself with something that looks like an 8 lbs human Baby! This was devoured gradually, but was split into 4 doggy bags to go.

If you still have room for dessert, you can order Death by Chocolate, similar to Bubba Gump's Alabama Mud Pie but slightly bigger.

Casa Verde is slowly but surely expanding, now opening a branch in Sikatuna in a few weeks time! It's about time we had a taste of Cebu's go to place for ribs. And I'll be glad to pen in my planner a visit every month if time permits to this wonderful and affordable place!

4.5 Stars for Casa Verde!
